Mass Shooting Responses

Blue Springs mass shooting response

On April 13, 2024, at Wilbur Young Park, a shooting occurred, resulting in the shooting of 3 individuals, 2 who are now deceased.  A volleyball game was occurring, and many of the kids at the park were teens from South Blue Springs High School.  We thank the Blue Springs Police Department for providing victims with the Kansas City Trauma Recovery Network's information.  In response, we reached out via social media to provide information and to gather more volunteers in that specific part of the city.  We also reached out to EMDR trained therapists and practices to inquire about interest in volunteering.

Chief's Parade mass shooting response

On February 14, 2024, at the parade celebrating the Kansas City Chief's win of the Super Bowl, a shooting occurred, killing one and wounding many. An event designed for the city to come together to celebrate, became a scene with chaos and tragedy.  It is the mission of the Kansas City Trauma Recovery Network, to provide pro bono EMDR mental health support in the form of individual therapy, and/or group intervention.  In response, we reached out via social media to collect volunteer licensed mental health therapists, and 89 raised their hand.  We communicated with city organizations, including, but not limited to, the office of Quinton Lucas, county prosecutors office, and local tv/radio stations to get the word out to those affected.  In total, 28 people reached out for pro bono therapy, and 19 were assigned.

If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, please visit the "Volunteer" tab and fill out the information.

If you need mental health support, that are a result of being at the Chief's parade, go to the "Request Services" tab and complete the form.  Someone will reach out to you.
